Looking Beyond the Physical when Treating Chronic Pain

Clinicians with an interest in chronic pain know that pain science has evolved significantly over the past 15 years, providing a far greater understanding of why pain persists and how to help people resolve their pain and regain their lives. Thankfully with the work of pain researchers like Lorimer Moseley and Peter O’Sullivan, clinicians are now recognising that there is more to chronic pain than there being a problem in the area where the pain is felt. Unfortunately, despite the extensive evidence linking psychosocial stress and past trauma (including adverse childhood experiences) with the onset of chronic pain, this is often still an area that is not addressed when patients present with chronic pain.

This is where the SIRPA approach takes chronic pain treatment to another level and helps patients identify and address the root causes of their pain as well as the triggers and other reasons for it persisting. The online SIRPA course is aimed at health professionals with an interest in learning how to help people resolve their pain.
