INTRODUCTION TO SELF-CARE AND PEER SUPERVISION

November 26, 2017 @ 9:15 am - 5:00 pm

Do you have a difficult patient you don’t know how to deal with? Has one of your patients become emotionally dependent on you? Are you feeling burnt out? Do you feel isolated? Are you spending a lot of money on courses but are still not sure where you are in your career?

Peer supervision offers practitioners the opportunity to get support for themselves, identify and resolve self-care issues and engage in continued personal and professional development. Peer supervision is a vital process for every practitioner from an established Osteopath to a new graduate; it bridges the gap for everyone for whom having a mentor is not available or accessible.

This one day workshop will provide an introduction to peer supervision and will cover:

  • identification of self-care issues in Osteopathy and those specific to you
  • what reflective practice is, how to structure it and how it aids you in your development
  • how to maintain and monitor the effectiveness of your everyday clinical work

This workshop will also aid you in understanding the new CPD framework requirements and help you structure “peer discussion reviews” effectively.

It will be delivered by Annie Sampson, who lives and works in the Republic of Ireland. Annie is a body work psychotherapist, who trained at University College Cork in group facilitation. In 1998 she trained as a supervisor and in 2008 graduated from Essex University with MSc in Supervision & Reflective Practice. Annie works as a trainer and supervisor with the Tivoli Institute (Dublin) and the University of Limerick MA in Humanistic Psychotherapy programme. She is also the director and principal trainer on Super.Vision Training. Her practice consists of individual and group psychotherapy sessions, as well as supervision for individuals and groups. She works with trainees and experienced psychotherapists, guidance counsellors, community workers, mediators, teachers, life coaches, social workers, youth workers, mentors, doctors and other professionals, both in Ireland and Nepal.

COST: practitioners – £90; 2017 graduates – £75; current students – £65

A certificate for 6.5 CPD hours will be issued.

Light refreshments will be provided and there are plenty of restaurants/cafes nearby for lunch.
