ESO’s Osteopathy and AHP career event

The European School of Osteopathy recently welcomed schools from across Kent to its campus for a special careers event dedicated to osteopathy and the allied health professions. Representatives from most AHPs took part, talking to pupils about their career aspirations. The day included talks and workshops from AHPs, including radiotherapists, occupational therapists, as well as osteopaths and careers advisers.

Osteopathy was particularly well represented on the day, with rolling 25-minute talk-shops and demonstrations provided by one of the ESO’s clinic tutors plus two interactive workshops covering Anatomy and Postural Stability.

The AHP event was developed and delivered in partnership with Education Business Partnership Kent – a not-for-profit organisation that equips young people with a better understanding of personal skills and their future choices. Attendance was limited to 14 Kent schools, with up to 10 specially selected pupils aged 15-18 years from each – on the day, 135 pupils attended along with their careers teachers.

ESO Principal and CEO, Ian Fraser, comments, “We were really pleased to hold this event at Boxley House, joining forces with fellow healthcare professionals to inspire Kent’s young people. Careers such as osteopathy can be equally fulfilling and, potentially, more suitable and appealing for that individual’s ambitions. By holding the event at our Boxley campus we were able to introduce osteopathy as one of the allied health professions and showcase the ESO’s outstanding degree programme and unique teaching facilities.”

The event proved to be a great success, with one teacher commenting “Best trip we have had in a long time! Educational, informative, friendly and engaging”.

If you’d like to help inspire the next generation of osteopaths, why not provide a talk at a school near you or offer to support your former university’s outreach initiatives. You can also volunteer your time through the Inspiring the Future website www.inspiringthefuture.org.
